Generally 2G 3G and 4G mobile network operators use legacy TDM digital microwave TDM /Packet radios, satellites, copper and optical fiber for point to point and point to multipoint transmissions backhaul for their access and core networks.
In order to determine the degree of performance of an operator’s transmissions network certainly requires detailed performance analysis of their network. The results will suggest if his transmissions network is designed for optimum performance and is in line with the established ITU standards. Therefore, for each of the operators, reliability and availability are two critical performance factors that determine the successful operation of their transmissions backhaul network.
This intensive 3 days begins with the overview of transmissions radio, optical and satellite system design and analysis, addressing operating frequency, available spectrum, channel bandwidth, modulation schemes, radio access techniques, link budget analysis.
The course relies heavily on instructor/class interaction, simulations and exercises that aid the student to develop an intuitive understanding of both the theoretical concepts and their practical application when doing network audit analysis and optimization.
Course participants will learn how to collect required data for comprehensive network analysis and collate the data maintaining a true representation of the Samples. Be able to Process the data to obtain a comprehensive and compact representation of the results and finally analyze the data to highlight any deviance in the Network performance (Reality x Design) and Create report/reports for each level of requirement (management – engineering – deployment...)
Knowledge of mobile transmission backhaul technologies and general transmissions network planning with radio, fiber and satellite technologies is highly recommended.
This workshop is highly recommended for telecommunication practicing engineers, network designers, engineering managers and IT professionals working in mobile operators and solution vendors who are responsible for planning, managing, optimization and maintenance of Transmission Network and systems.
Students will learn how to gather data and information for audit and analysis purposes. In addition he will learn what type of information he must collect and how to analyze the collected data; for example:
Critical Link budget parameters if properly not selected the two main link budget out put i.e. fade Margin and receiver threshold levels may not be sufficient to support the intended communications. Students will be shown how to analyze and audit the critical parameters of the link budget and see if they are generated based on the network design guidelines etc.
The main input to the link budget is the terrain data obtained from the Line of Site Surveys. Use of improper LOS surveys could lead to calculations of wrong antenna center lines causing either over or under design of links. Many LOS surveyors’ guess the tee heights and ignore the yearly growth of the trees. Under design of links causes diffraction losses and over designed links become vulnerable to multi path interferences. Students will be shown how to carefully analyze the LOS survey reports and generate audit reports and process to optimize link performance ass set out in the initial guidelines.
A reliability analysis predicts the operational performance of a link or system of links. Generally, statistical models are used to predict the annual outage time, unavailability percentage, and reliability percentage. Students will learn the analysis methodologies and verification process that the selected link budget parameters are sufficient to support the intended communications.
The Frequency Coordination Process involves several distinct but interrelated elements; interference analysis, notification, and response. Student will learn how to audit and analyze them and prepare network optimization steps.
Students will learn how to audit and analyze the existence of plans and procedures, Diversity check for important traffic, Back-up power for all critical network elements and finally Back-up plan for any unexpected hazards
Students will learn how to complete the analysis and audit report including topics such as: Validation of network design, Validation of network design versus implementation Validation of Network Performance, Identification of network limits, constraints and generic issues, Identification of tool and process limitation, Set of recommendations in support of the audit etc.
Case study will be based on trainer’s recent work involving a typical network audit for an existing GSM operator.
